Railways between Passau and Vienna

The Austrian Danube has been and still is a highly important transport route. Nevertheless, an accompanying railway line was never seen as necessary. Hence it is not possible all too often to board a train along with one’s bike, for example during bad weather, or if one’s saddle is simply too uncomfortable. That’s why we made a list of places where it is possible.

1 Ottensheim - Linz, approx. 10 km / 16 miles
- “Mühlviertelbahn”, operates daily, except Sundays and public holidays, one train approx. every 15 to 30 minutes throughout daytime

2 Linz - St.Nikola-Struden:
- “Donauferbahn”, operates daily, throughout the day, approx. every 2 to 4 hours

3 Ybbs - Melk:
- “Westbahn”, operates daily, throughout the day, approx. every 1-2 hours

4 Tulln - Vienna:
- “Franz-Josefs-Bahn”, operates daily, throughout the day, approx. every hour.

There are also train connections between towns on the Danube that do not go alongside the river, for example Passau-Linz, Ybbs-Vienna or Krems-Tulln.
